Through Sunday, July 31,2016….Join CONNECTMED as we raise $10,000 to provide surgical care and follow-up for low-income children from Tijuana afflicted with Moebius Syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by facial paralysis that hinders smiles and speech.

Allow us to update you on how previous support of ConnectMed and children in need is genuinely helping to improve lives – and to ask for your support now.
You might remember Dana, our 9-year-old patient in Tijuana. Dana was born with Moebius Syndrome, a congenital defect that affects the facial nerves and left her unable to express basic facial emotions, such as smiling, or to speak normally. Thanks to the facial reanimation surgery that Dana received through ConnectMed last January in Mexico City, we are proud to share that she is beginning to smile for the first time and is making progress in learning to speak clearly. Most importantly Dana is starting to feel like a “normal” little girl.
Dana’s improvement is encouraging yet there is more that can be done to help her and others like her. To further improve her facial mobility, Dana needs additional surgeries and ongoing physical therapy. Children like 13- year-old Jesus need help as well. That is why we’re asking for your help now.
ConnectMed is partnering with Dr. Damian Palafox, a plastic surgery resident from Mexico City. In addition to being a ConnectMed grantee and an award-winning scholar in his field, Damian is also an amazing athlete and humanitarian.
This summer, Damian will be racing as part of the JuanSon Running Crew to raise funds for children like Dana in both a duathalon (July 17th) AND a half marathon (July 31st ) in Mexico City. Many of us couldn’t imagine completing either…and certainly not both! But we can all support his remarkable efforts to complete both events by making a donation to ConnectMed!
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by July 31, 2016 to fund additional surgeries and ongoing physical and speech therapy for Dana. If we can, we’d also like to provide surgical and follow-up care for Jesus, a 13-year-old boy with Moebius Syndrome who has not yet received any medical intervention for his facial paralysis.
Reaching our goal in this fundraising drive will allow us to schedule both Jesus’ and Dana’s surgeries for 2016 in Tijuana. ConnectMed surgeons will operate under the leadership of renowned microsurgeon Dr. Alex Cardenas from Mexico City.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
