Here’s a blip of my heartwarming experience today…and yes there were tears!
Lozi, a 15 month old cleft lip was actually seen last year during our February visit. She wasn’t quite ready for surgery back then –Lozi was very malnourished, an issue that many of the children have– so Mom, ever so diligently worked with Dr. Young of the ABC Clinic all year to help get Lozi more fit for surgery. According to Dr. Young, Mom would come monthly with Lozi to the clinic to do dietary work and continued follow ups.
Looks like Mom’s love and diligence have paid off! Lozi was approved for cleft lip repair and was Dr. Gosman’s first case of this trip! Lozi did great during her surgery and came to the PAC-U ‘brand new’. After a peaceful nap in recovery room we brought Mom to see Lozi; Dr. Young by her side. -Here comes the tear jerker!- As soon as mom saw her baby sitting up in bed with her new smile she started cheerfully jumping, smiling and giving thanks! She gave hugs to Dr. Young and then held her baby tight. She was overjoyed with thanks!
It was an amazing experience to have witnessed and participated in such an intimate and joyous occasion. Just goes to show how a mother’s dedication to give her child a chance for a better life can reap great rewards!
