“4.8 billion people, about 67% of the world’s population, are without safe, affordable, timely surgical care.  Access is worse in low income and middle income countries, where 9/10 people are without access to basic surgical care.”

– Lancet Commission on Global Surgery

ConnectMed was founded in 2010 by Dr. Amanda Gosman, Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of California, San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital.

Mission

Improving access to healthcare and the quality of life for people with physical differences from resource-limited communities through partnerships, education & research, and psychosocial support.

ConnectMed International proudly stands apart from traditional medical mission organizations because we support patient care and strengthen local healthcare systems through:

  • Innovative and long-term partnership with healthcare professionals that facilitate the delivery of care that every patient deserves.

  • Educational opportunities and research support that local healthcare professionals identify as needing for providing optimal care to their own communities.

  • Support of their mental, emotional and social well-being through year-round programs and access to related resources.

Vision

We are a collaborative network of medical and non-medical professionals and students from around the world who believe that access to safe, affordable, and timely medical care is a human right.  We understand that lack of access to medical care can impact one’s ability to finish school, work, provide for their family, and contribute to the economic health of their community.

We come together to provide and support treatment of medical conditions causing disability, such as craniofacial differences, burns, traumatic injuries, and congenital or acquired anomalies.

ConnectMed proudly stands apart from traditional medical mission organizations because we support patient care and strengthen local healthcare systems using the following related approaches:
